This article covers creating bootable media, which will allow you to perform a full-system recovery. There are two ways to do this:
- Proactively: this assumes you take regular “snapshots” of your PC and store your backups just in case.
- Reactively: if a disaster has occurred, you will still be able to recover your files and restore your computer.
Rebit full-system recoveries allow you to restore your entire PC, including files, operating systems, software, settings, configurations, and more.
This is useful for the following scenarios:
- Disaster! If you have completely lost your PC or have been hijacked by malicious software, bootable media allows you to reset back to your last backup as though nothing happened. This is the ultimate failsafe for computer problems.
- Moving to a new computer. If you purchased a new computer and would like to move everything from old to new, Rebit allows you to do that seamlessly.
Terms
Bootable media is term simply meaning something you can use to boot a computer from. It may be a CD/DVD or USB drive created with a complete backup of your system.
Full-system recovery is an image of everything on your entire PC. Even if your system is completely wiped out, you will be able to boot from this CD/DVD or USB drive and restore everything about your system.
Getting started
1) Create bootable media proactively from the Rebit software
Creating a bootable backup is a simple 2-step process in Rebit. This can be done assuming your system is operating normally and you’d like to take a snapshot of your current PC proactively.
Open the Rebit software application, click on Settings option and select Recovery Disk.
Insert either a CD, DVD, or USB stick into your computer and select the matching choice within Rebit.
Now that you have this utility, you’ll be able to use it to boot your computer from at any time. It will be able to pull from your existing Rebit backups at any time to restore your computer in case your entire system has crashed.
2) Create bootable media after your system has crashed (using the Rebit BMR utility)
This method can be used when your system hard disk has crashed and you do not have access to your system. In this case, you will be performing these steps from another PC.
In order to do this, you will use an application called Rebit BmrIsoCreator.
Download BmrIsoCreator in the other system from this link. Install once the download is complete.
After installation, right click on the application icon and choose Run as administrator.
From there, choose your media in the first drop down.
And select the “OS Boot Mode” in the next selection area. But in general, most modern computers running Windows 8 or Windows 10 are UEFI. Even many Windows 7 computer utilize UEFI.
Once you’ve made your selections, click Create Bootable. Once complete, you can boot your computer from your new Rebit recovery drive and to restore your system and recover your files.
